Things to do
Barra da Lagoa is a traditional fishing neighborhood in eastern Florianópolis, featuring open ocean waters, hiking trails, seafood restaurants, and easy access to the island's most famous beaches. Many of the activities listed below can be reached on foot from the guesthouse.
Barra da Lagoa Beach
Located 50 meters from the guesthouse. It features a wide stretch of sand and is great for swimming, walking, and surfing, with kiosks and restaurants lining the waterfront. It is the go-to beach for guests staying here: you can walk there in flip-flops, head back for lunch, and return in the afternoon.
Barra da Lagoa Natural Pools
About a 15-minute walk along the waterfront, crossing the suspension bridge over the canal. These are saltwater pools nestled among the rocks, sheltered from the waves and very popular with families with children. Best visited at low tide and when the sea is calm.
Projeto Tamar
Just a few minutes' walk away. A sea turtle conservation center featuring viewing tanks, an exhibition, and a shop. A quick outing that is ideal for children, especially on rainy days.
Barra Canal and Suspension Bridge
The canal connecting Lagoa da Conceição to the sea cuts through the neighborhood and is where the fishing boats are docked. The suspension bridge is a local landmark and serves as the gateway to the hiking trails and natural pools.
Morro das Aranhas Trail
Starts near the end of the beach and climbs to viewpoints overlooking Barra da Lagoa and Moçambique Beach. The hike ranges from easy to moderate in difficulty. Bring water, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes.
Moçambique Beach
Neighboring Barra da Lagoa and the island's longest beach, featuring over 7 km of sand within the Rio Vermelho State Park. An undeveloped beach sought after by those looking for long walks and tranquility. Strong surf; exercise caution when swimming.
Mole Beach
About 4 km away. One of Florianópolis's most famous beaches—a hotspot for surfers and young crowds—featuring beachfront bars and a hang-gliding ramp on the adjacent hill.
Joaquina Beach
Located about 7 km away. Famous for its waves and sand dunes, where sandboarding is a popular activity. A great half-day outing that combines beach time with the dunes.
Lagoa da Conceição
Located about 8 km away. The gastronomic and nightlife hub of the eastern region, featuring restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as stand-up paddleboarding and kitesurfing on the lagoon's waters. It is also the departure point for boats heading to Costa da Lagoa.
Costa da Lagoa
A community inaccessible by car, reached by boat from Lagoa da Conceição or via hiking trails. Features waterfront seafood restaurants and scenic boat rides with views of the hills. An ideal full-day excursion.
